Drug and alcohol addiction can be easily beat

It’s not hard to avoid drug or alcohol addiction. The main thing is to remember you have self control.

Find something else to do that makes you happy. Get involved in doing something productive that doesn’t involve drugs or alcohol. Build things, do sewing, clean your garage or basement.

Be helpful to others, ask an elderly neighbor if they need anything done.

You get a good feeling from accomplishing things, not just sitting around doing drugs or drinking alcohol. :)

Don’t ever say to yourself “I’m just an alcoholic (or drug user) and there’s nothing I can do about it. Never.

Say “I’m a good person, and my goodness and happiness does not depend on using lots of drugs or drinking lots of alcohol.”

    Learn the facts

    Learn the facts
    Addiction means loss of control!
If you have choice it means your not an addict.
The survival mode of the brain has been programed to put the fix first on the list of needs for survival; Above food, sleep, sex, and other basic needs. The frontal lobes shut down so all the information in the world is useless. However We can have experiences which reprogram the this survival part to avoid the fix at all cost!

thanks man. I’m worried about a lot of this when it comes to myself, and this is really reassuring. I don’t know if i’m with you 100%, but i don’t really expect that from anyone. This was an intimate video; it gave me a lot of confidence for the future. Don’t often find something like that on youtube

    addiction is no …
addiction is no disease… a disease is something you dont choose to have. people who are addicited to drugs and alcohol have very little self control and are weak. that is why they like to believe they have a disease to make themselves feel better. everybody can control what substances they put in their bodies. If you are weak you can get addicted to almost anything.

    You have a couple …
You have a couple good points and thats it……..it IS A DISEASE, what is a disease? something that is progressive, chronic and fatal…………… addiction is a disease.

  12. Rockguitarnow Says:

    If by “disease” you …
If by “disease” you mean some mental illness the American gov and fed banks have been heavily funding, the facts show that all behavior is choice and upbrniging. No behavior is a disease or illness.

But in a profit-run field like America’s capitalist psychology field, they try to make everything sound lifelong and in need of expensive therapy 3 times a week at $100 a session, and all kinds of high priced medications.

    It’s quite bogus.

    You are 100% …
You are 100% correct on ADD bullshit…and you make very good arguments about addiction….I still haven’t made up my mind about the “disease” or choice model……Great job though..

When you take an opiate you are deppressing the nervous system…therefor when the opiates leave you system you nervous system wakes up and is ultra sesitive to what your used to hence you feel more pain!! simple brain chemistry………Mental health is an illness also you moron!! addiction is a mental maloy an illness that is progressive in the mind, but positively it can be repaired you can be well again, it takes work. w/d is the easy part! staying off is where the work starts……12 steps,

  16. Rockguitarnow Says:

    True, if taking …
True, if taking over 20mg a day of oxycontin for more than 4 days straight, the person’s body will feel physically painful for a few days after he stops. This is especially true if taking 40mg a day or more, and far worse if he’s taking 60mg a day or more.

This is easily countered by lowering the dosage down slowly. For example, if taking 80mg a day, then lower it to 45 or 50mg a day for 2 or 3 days, then lower that to 20 or 30mg a day for a few days, then the person can stop with no problem.

  17. loveisnow2 Says:

    When you take pain …
When you take pain killers for back pain you have to be very careful. Oxycontin when you try to reduce the script will actually cause bones to aches and back pain. So , how do you know your back pain is real pain related or from the medictions?

  18. element045 Says:

This sounds like a sincere talk, I agree with everything you said the only thing is there is a new drug called suboxone that is very useful for opiod addiction the cons is that is very expensive and has a lot of side effects as far as i read i hope this helps

    inittowinnit…Stop talking nonsense.
RGN. The message is spot on mate. Here in the UK I am still trying to convince people I work with that we DO have control and addiction is NOT an illness.
People have to start to look at the language they use such as ‘I NEED a drink’ No. It should be…I WANT a drink’
It’s up to the likes of us to shift paradigms mate so keep up the good work.

  21. Rockguitarnow Says:

    LOL That is true. …
LOL That is true. By the way, have you looked up tylenol lately? It is the drug that causes the most overdose deaths in America, not oxycontin.

Acitomenophen which is the active ingredient in Tylenol, does nasty liver damage to people, yet it is legal and over the counter.

Research shows oxycodone does almost no damage to the body, but it is highly illegal, and acitomenophen is legal.

  22. randy95023 Says:

    So even though I …
So even though I agree with most of what you’re saying I couldn’t help but notice that you take about 10mg. of Oxy 3 or 4 times a day AND you smoke. Well, I take Oxy 3 or 4 times a day AND I smoke, but don’t say you’re not an “addict”. There are a LOT of addicts like you and I. We just have a good enough excuse due to chronic pain, etc. Don’t be too quick to dismiss everybody else’s addictions. Most people have their own “excuses” like you do (and myself)…

  23. beatingaddiction Says:

I am a recovering alcoholic. Addiction is definitely an illness. To me the cure is wanting to quit, and a lot of support from my AA group.

  25. reed272003 Says:

    i get what you’re …
i get what you’re saying about the profit-based mental health and presciption drug industries. However addiction is a disease of the mind. As you sit there smoking and talking about your opiates, you’re giving dangerous advice. i have enough experience and struggle every day with addiction.-sober 10 months
