“There was never a …
“There was never a question about his capabilities. Director Billy Friedkin used him in both Rampage and Jade; James Cameron hired him for Aliens, The Abyss and The Terminator; and he worked for Franc Roddam in The Lords of Discipline and K-2.
Now as the major hero in the large-scale “Asteroid,” Biehn has a second chance to catch a falling star.”

“”I wanted to feel …
“”I wanted to feel I was a good father and took care of my family more than financially. … If you do that kind of drinking – which I did for a long period of time – you begin to see where you’re headed as far as what’s going to be left in your life: relationships, health, friends, family?”" (…)

“… I think I’ve …
“… I think I’ve learned a lot from the programs I’ve been in. I denied I had any kind of problem as long as I could possibly deny it. I had been hit over the head with a hammer 150 times and was still saying, ‘Hey, what’s the problem?’ ”
Biehn longed to be a father to his children (in fact, he took them on a rafting trip just before he started “Asteroid” and his next project, American Dragon).” (…)

“The 40-year-old …
“The 40-year-old actor awoke from his lethargy when his indulgences began to affect his life.
“I had a lot of problems in my marriage. It started creeping up to me in the work situation where it was jeopardizing my career and the money I did make, jeopardizing my relationship with my agents and people I work with. …”" (…)

“”Up till a year …
“”Up till a year ago I was dealing in that situation and people weren’t complaining about me and my work, but I think they were actually concerned about my health.”
After 10 years of marriage, Biehn recently separated from his second wife. He has 13-year-old twin boys from his first marriage and a 4-year-old son from his second.
“I can’t say I’m 100 percent through the transition,” he continues. “I haven’t even spoken to anybody about this.”" (…)

“At first Biehn …
“At first Biehn never drank when he was filming. “There was a time I started drinking and working at the same time, though I never missed a day’s work, never missed a shot, wasn’t slurring my words or anything.”
Though Hollywood likes to perpetuate the myth that it’s a wild and woolly town, the opposite is true. Parties clear out by 10 p.m., locals spend their free time sweating to the oldies and menus might omit prices but scrupulously calculate every fat gram.” (…)

“The partying went …
“The partying went on between films and on weekends. “I’ve been drinking and taking drugs since I was 13 years old and became very successful during that time, while I was doing it,” he says.
“So it was another reason for me to not quite see the problem: ‘Hey, I’ve got a big car, making all this money, what’s the problem? I’ve never been arrested.’ But it catches up to you,” he said.” (…)

“But all that is …
“But all that is nothing compared with the personal battle Biehn is waging.
His own star seemed to be ascending with roles in Aliens, The Rock and The Abyss. But one day, he says, he realized he wasn’t happy. “I knew it and a lot of people around me knew it,” he says.
“I had everything a man could possibly want – I had a great career, made a lot of money, had a beautiful family, beautiful children, friends, close family at home and I kinda was killing myself – drinking and drugs.”" (…)

Lexington …
Lexington Herald-Leader, 1997-02-12: “Star of NBC’s ‘Asteroid’ turning life around after years of drinking”
“Actor Michael Biehn has fought forces seemingly beyond defeat. He was the soldier sent to protect Linda Hamilton from the sinister Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator, the homicide detective in Jade and now the Fed charged with saving the planet from a blitzkrieging meteor in NBC’s “Asteroid,” airing Sunday and Monday.” (…)

I always wondered …
I always wondered if his sudden career halt was attributable to something like this. I expected him to be bigger, then poof. Funny thing is, he replaced James Remar (48 Hrs.) on Aliens, possibly because of a similar issue. (They’re vague on the DVD commentary. Don’t wanna slander Remar.) It was good to see him back in Grindhouse. Maybe he’ll get one of those great, late, career-redefining roles like Reynolds in Boogie Nights or Forster in Jackie Brown. Keep coming back, Michael.
