Why do people think that Irish people are the biggest alcoholics in the world?

There are some cultures and countries that drink a lot more than Irish.
Some of them include:
Native Americans.
Korean
German.
Why do the Irish get the title of alcoholics?

just great. you are complaining about a stereotype of the irish by bashing other ethnicities and races with the same stereotype? way to go.

    Most definitely all stereotypes.
People love to find a flaw in one person, or one group of people, and blame their entire race or nationality for it.

Irish, Scottish, Korean , Japanese, German can’t compare to the russian and eastern europeans. all drink a lot. but from my experience I went to romania. I think they drink a lot than the irish, german and japanese………..its kind like I didn’t have any water to drink, they ordered me the alcohol all the time and when I got thirsty, the only drink I got, were the wine……
they also have a specific kind of foods that you have to drink with alcohol and I drunk a lot in romania lol

It’s called a stereotype. In Europe (though I must admit it does have a basis) Irish and British (English, Scottish and Welsh) holiday makers are basically hated for the partying, binge drinking, vomitting in streets etc.

I was just going to say Russians drink more than Irish.

It’s a stereotype. The Irish have always been mistreated and stereotyped. See how the British treated them, they even enslaved them in the past!

Every culture has a lush or two in it, lol. But the media always try and portray the Irish as "being able to drink you under the table" but fall just short of using the word "alcoholic" in the description. They save that one for Native Americans. The media is the biggest contributor to stereotypes. We as thinking individuals must learn to see beyond that, and treat people as individuals, and not make assumptions based on the opinion of someone who makes a living according to how high their ratings are. They’ll say anything for a buck!
