A&E Intervention – Laney Pt. 2
Laney is an alcoholic who has lost everything she had dreamed for. She has already been to the Emergency Room numerous times and once to the ICU. Her body is heavily damaged from years of abuse. Desperate for attention from her divorced husband whom she still has feeling for, her days are full of binge drinking for hours at a time. Laney’s family is upset that it has gotten this far. Laney has also openly mentioned suicidal thoughts as well pushing the family for an intervention as soon as possible. Can Laney get help before it’s too late?

I think the format and story arc of the show kind of forces them to give that impression… I think every case is different.
I wouldnt underestimate low self esteem though… seems to drive a lot of destructive behavior! It doesnt necessarily make you weak.

I definitely think that there is a genetic, chemical component to addiction, because some people do not become addicts no matter what. I do not think addicts have a substance abuse problem because they weak. You are a pillar of strength. Sometimes it’s just no one’s fault.

This show always …
This show always has the same story, miserable abusive childhood, turning into addictions that ruin peoples lives. Anyone can fall prey to substance abuse. I was an alcoholic for 3 years. I have a perfectly loving family, good friends. Alot of ppl who have problems have a secret behind it, something that caused the whole thing. If i was sat down and asked why i started drinking, i’m not sure i could say. Low self esteem is the only thing i can think of, or maybe i was just plain weak

I appreciate your opinion but I can’t be jealous of someone I don’t know. I’m not wired that way. My thoughts about this person is based on her own words and actions.
And yes I have little sympathy for those who take their blessings for granted. Money surely isn’t everything but she had love and support as well. Her husband treated her well by her own eventual admission but she threw him away too. Did you forget about that? Sounds like she just needs to grow up. I hope she’s dong well.

I’m not proud to admit this but I find it very difficult to feel sorry for people who have everything, literally, yet can’t find a single thing in their lives to be happy about.
Yes, the ex raping her is a horrible thing but the rest of her backstory isn’t tragic, compared to most on this show.
She even found true love in her husband and didn’t want it.

Not that I am defending her behaviour in any ways, but the alcohol or any other substance abuse has a personality alterating effect, even at the moment she did not have alcohol in her system, the long term use hasalready destroyed many brain cells… I still think she would not have been this nasty has the abuse not altered her personality…

laney is still a nasty person intoxicated or not. remember the hospital scene when she was sober; she blamed hr mom for hr overdose and when her aunt and cousin mentioned how much hr mom and sister were at her side b/c of an overdose that was 100 % hr own dam fault she said ”let me be the first to give them a cookie” sarcastically. i’m glad laney didn’t have any children otherwise they would need years of therapy after dealing with laney.

Actually, she is not the one that is nasty, the alcohol is. Her whole behaviour is a cryout for help. Just like when a child behaves badly or throws a tantrum… Unfortunately I think it is too late to turn this around, maybe a child of her own would have helped…

laney is just plain NASTY rich or not. she ignores her cousin becky tearfully begging laney to let the paramedics help her; she blames hr mom for hr overdose; when hr family tries to do an interventin on hr, she locks them out n the cold AND calls the cops on them;makin the therapist ride 1200 mi w/hr on alimo only to turn around wen they get there. what do u want, a cookie

Of course she wants attention. She obviously is lonely, depressed and desperate. How do you people expect her to express that after drinking a bottle of rum?
Addiction is a genetic predisposition, often brought out- or exacerbated- by trauma. It runs in families. The trauma doesn’t CAUSE the problem, it is simply a catalyst for an underlying predisposition.
