I am doing a research paper for school. I am also a recovering alcoholic myself. I also need to know the suicide rate among alcoholics? What is the effect of alcoholism on children of alcoholics?
My guess is about 67%, but true research to go from.

I mean alcoholics that aren’t in recovery.
they love to party,
they love to have ‘fun’
they do those ‘fun’ things with decent alcohol.
depending on the personality,
they talk about life as if its just a ‘flow’.
they tend to be super relaxed when their not drunk.

According to the viewpoint of those within Alcoholics Anonymous, is Alcoholism a disease or a behavioral problem?
The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous suggests that it is a disease of the mind and body. A theoretical allergy to alcohol. The AMA lists alcoholism as a mental disorder. AA also suggests that alcoholism is a spiritual malady. I think its a choice to over-drink. I also think our society should teach more clearly what acceptable drinking looks like. In my opinion that is one drink with lunch or dinner.
i read a lot on-line about it and people seem to bash AA and say it don’t work because it didn’t work for them! My opinion is,, AA is for people that want to stay sober and not necessarily need to stay sober , ive been sober 6 years now and go to lots of meetings and thoroughly enjoy them I’m very happy,, my family around me are very happy ,,, it just disheartens me to read people running AA down when it has worked for over 2 million alcoholics and there families have peace that they are recovered too also ,, do they run AA down because they maybe had not the willingness to stay sober and ended up drunk and that its easier to blame it on AA not working than accept that they are at fault and that they are the problem and that maybe they didn’t want to stop drinking
also i would suggest, anyone non alcohoic ,should attend an open meeting or read the big book of alcoholics anonymous ,before they pass judgement , contempt without prior investigation will keep a man in everlasting ignorance
@ pirate i didnt say it was the best , i just said it had worked for me and over 2 million others
@ pirate again i wasnt running anyone down i just said it disheartened , a waste of space???? AA is a self help therapy group!!!! ahem,, families and friends soz
there is a lot of confusion out there about AA.
and misinformation, from people who only went to 1 meeting, or none.
but i can’t answer your "why" question with any degree of confidence.
I need some good songs that talk about alcoholics for a project I’m working on.
"Five o’clock somewhere" Just about anything country western.
